Editorial: The People Power Party's Silence Even in the Face of Yoon Seok-yeol's Guilty Verdict

Despite a court ruling guilty on insurrection charges against former President Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party has yet to take a formal stance on the matter.

On November 19, the South Korean court convicted former President Yoon Seok-yeol of insurrection and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Despite the serious verdict, the People Power Party (PPP) failed to issue any official comments regarding the ruling. The PPP has previously shown strong opposition to Yoon's impeachment and arrest, and despite the overwhelming public sentiment for accountability following their electoral defeat, they continue to downplay the judiciary's decision and resist cutting ties with the Yoon faction that supports actions against the state. The party leader, Jang Dong-hyuk, postponed any public statement concerning the ruling, indicating a reluctance to confront the issue head-on.
