AEDC slashes losses, deploys 70,000 meters
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has significantly reduced its operational losses and deployed additional meters as part of efforts to enhance electricity supply.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has reported a substantial decrease in its aggregate technical, commercial, and collection losses from 42 percent to 32 percent within a year. This achievement is attributed to the company's intensified efforts in metering, network enhancements, and embedded generation projects, aimed at improving the overall power supply across its franchise areas. During a media briefing, Managing Director Chijioke Okwuokenye outlined these operational milestones and emphasized the importance of these changes for stabilizing electricity supply to customers.
Okwuokenye highlighted that AEDC has increased its energy intake by nearly 15 percent over the past year, marking this growth as a critical indicator of the enhancements being made in the electricity sector. He expressed that although there is still progress to be made, these achievements reflect the company's commitment to improving service delivery and fulfilling its long-term objectives. The deployment of 70,000 meters is a significant step towards improving metering accuracy and customer billing.
By proactively addressing the issues related to energy supply and losses, AEDC aims to foster better customer relations and establish a more reliable electricity distribution network. Okwuokenyeβs remarks suggest that the company is on a trajectory of growth and improvement, which could have broader implications for the Nigerian power sector, particularly in enhancing the quality of service and increasing customer trust in electricity providers.
