AEDC cuts losses by 10%, deploys 70,000 meters in 14 months
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has reduced its losses from 42% to 32% in one year while deploying 70,000 meters to enhance electricity supply.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has reported a significant reduction in its aggregate technical, commercial, and collection losses, which fell from approximately 42% to 32% within a 14-month period. This achievement is part of a broader strategy to improve the quality and reliability of electricity supply in Abuja and surrounding areas. The company's Managing Director, Chijioke Okwuokenye, highlighted these milestones during a media briefing, emphasizing that such progress is crucial for building trust and transparency with the customer base.
In addition to reducing losses, AEDC has actively intensified its metering and network upgrades while implementing embedded generation projects. These initiatives are aimed at boosting the power supply and increasing energy intake for customers. Specifically, Okwuokenye mentioned a nearly 15% rise in energy intake over the last year, which is evidence of improved service delivery. This positive trend not only reflects the company's efforts but also enhances customer confidence in their electricity supply.
Despite acknowledging the progress made, Okwuokenye admitted that there is still a long way to go for AEDC to fully stabilize electricity supply. The strides made in investment and service delivery showcase a commitment to better outcomes, indicating AEDC is actively working towards setting a benchmark for electricity distribution in Nigeria. The company aims to continue investing in infrastructure and technology to ensure that all customers receive reliable electricity in the future.
