At the "Pilot" Gallery, School Lamps Buzz and Reminder Notes Are Planted at the Exhibition of Young Artists

The "Pilot" gallery showcases six finalists competing for the "BDO Young Artists Award," highlighting the themes of anxiety and coexistence in uncertain times.

This year, a jury selected six finalists from 25 entries for the "BDO Young Artists Award," a competition open to recent graduates of the Master's programs at the Latvian Art Academy. The award includes a cash prize of two thousand euros. Antra Priede, the Deputy Director of Studies at the Academy, emphasizes that what unites these artists is a vivid documentation of contemporary anxiety and diverse expressions of how to exist in this age of uncertainty, finding solace and empathy in their interactions with one another.

Among the finalists at the "Pilot" gallery, each artist stands out with their unique perspective. One notable installation is "The Friends' Box," created by artist Kristers KrΕ«ms, which involves the combination of various found objects. KrΕ«ms reflects on the historical significance of these objects and how their materiality speaks to their relationships and narratives. The art, in this case, acts as a dialogue not only between the objects but also the audience, prompting viewers to consider the stories embedded within them.

This exhibition not only showcases the talent of emerging artists but also invites a larger audience to engage with the pressing themes of modern life, such as anxiety and the search for meaningful connections. By featuring such work, the "Pilot" gallery provides a platform for new voices in the art world, enabling them to contribute to the cultural conversation around coexistence and the human experience in these challenging times.
