Consórcio Mez-RZK Novo Centro wins auction to build the new government headquarters in downtown SP for R$ 6.1 billion

The MEZ-RZK Novo Centro Consortium has won the auction to construct the new government headquarters in Sao Paulo for R$ 6.1 billion, expected to be completed by 2030.

The MEZ-RZK Novo Centro Consortium emerged victorious in an auction held on Thursday, October 26, for the construction of the new government headquarters in downtown Sao Paulo. The project is estimated to cost around R$ 6.1 billion and is to be completed by 2030. This initiative is a significant part of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas's campaign promises, reflecting the government's ambitions for modernization and improved functionality in its administrative operations.

The new headquarters will entail relocating the Palácio dos Bandeirantes from Morumbi to a newly developed complex around Praça Princesa Isabel. The winning consortium provided a bid that included a 9.62% discount on monthly payments from the state, which were originally capped at R$ 76.6 million but will now come to approximately R$ 69.2 million per month for the 30-year concession period. This financial maneuver demonstrates an effort by the government to optimize spending while accommodating a substantial public infrastructure investment.

The construction will be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), with the state government contributing roughly R$ 3.4 billion of public funds from the State Treasury. As this initiative progresses, it will not only reshape the city's architectural landscape but also has implications for public administration efficiency and operational transparency in Sao Paulo.
