The Environmental Police in Brazil seized eight firearms during an operation aimed at combating illegal hunting in Northern Minas Gerais, resulting in one arrest.
The Environmental Police in Brazil conducted Operation Silvestre in Northern Minas Gerais to combat illegal wildlife hunting. During the operation, which took place in the rural area of Cônego Marinho, eight firearms were seized. The police had received reports of wildlife poaching in the region and intensified their patrols within the State Park of Veredas do Peruaçu, targeting areas where poachers were suspected to operate.
While patrolling the designated areas, officers discovered three firearms hidden in the region. Shortly thereafter, they observed a 31-year-old suspect approaching a makeshift shelter with a shotgun in his possession. He was promptly confronted by police and arrested for illegally carrying a firearm. This swift action highlights the police’s commitment to tackling illegal hunting in the area.
Following the arrest, the police extended their search around the property and confiscated five additional firearms, with one shotgun discovered concealed within a PVC pipe. This operation underscores the ongoing challenges of wildlife poaching in Brazil and the law enforcement agencies' efforts to protect its natural resources from illegal exploitation.
