The case of internet fraud involving fake offers to purchase cars or their parts has been referred to the court

A man is accused of internet fraud in Lithuania for illegally obtaining €8,600 by offering non-existent cars and parts online.

In Lithuania, a man born in 1987 is facing allegations of systematic online fraud involving the sale of non-existent cars and car parts. According to the KlaipΔ—da County Police Headquarters, the suspect reportedly created a small partnership company under which he deceived victims by advertising vehicles for sale on the internet. The initial investigation was launched in June 2024, following a complaint from a victim who had paid €500 for alloy wheels he found advertised on social media but never received them.

The police revealed that another individual had also fallen victim to a similar scam, indicating that the suspect had exploited multiple victims through fake advertisements. In total, five victims reported the scam, which resulted in the suspect illegally obtaining €8,600. The perpetrator allegedly signed contracts with the victims, including terms for the purchase and delivery of the advertised car parts, further complicating the case and suggesting a level of organization in his fraudulent activities.

This case highlights the ongoing issues of online fraud in Lithuania, particularly on social media and online marketplaces where scammers prey on unsuspecting consumers. The legal proceedings initiated will not only seek justice for the victims but also serve as a warning to online shoppers regarding the potential risks associated with purchasing high-value items through unverified sources.
