The name of the bridge connecting Yeongjongdo and Sindodo has been decided as Sindopyeonghwa Bridge
The bridge connecting Yeongjongdo and Sindodo in Incheon will officially be named Sindopyeonghwa Bridge, emphasizing peace as a key element of its identity.
Incheon City has officially named the bridge connecting Yeongjongdo and Sindodo as Sindopyeonghwa Bridge during the first meeting of the Incheon City Naming Committee on the 26th. The bridge, which spans 2.36 kilometers, will allow residents of nearby islands such as Sin, Si, and Mo-do to access the mainland 24 hours a day once it opens in May 2026. This connection is seen as a significant development for the community, enhancing mobility and accessibility for island residents.
During the naming meeting, three proposals were discussed: Sindopyeonghwa Bridge (suggested by Ongjin-gun), Seohaenambukpyeonghwa Bridge (proposed by Incheon City), and Sindoyeongjong Bridge (proposed by Jung-gu). The committee chose Sindopyeonghwa Bridge for its integration of both the destination name (Sindodo) and the theme of peace, which reinforces the bridge's identity and the symbolic values of the project. The name aims to promote a sense of local pride and reflects the broader vision of peace and connectivity in the region.
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok stated that efforts will be made to ensure the swift implementation of the necessary procedures to make Sindopyeonghwa Bridge a new symbol that enhances the city's recognition. Furthermore, the bridge will pass through the National Geographic Information Institute for formal recognition in national mapping and naming systems, signifying its importance in the infrastructural landscape of Incheon and beyond.
