Sejong University Selected as Operating University for the 2026-2027 Korea-Japan Joint Higher Education Exchange Project
Sejong University has been selected to operate the '2026-2027 Korea-Japan Joint Higher Education Student Exchange Project' to enhance cultural exchange between Korea and Japan.
Sejong University has been officially chosen as the operating university for the '2026-2027 Korea-Japan Joint Higher Education Student Exchange Project', which is managed by the National Institute for International Education. This project aims to boost student exchanges between South Korea and Japan, focusing on enhancing understanding of the Korean language and culture. The primary component of the initiative involves inviting undergraduate students from Japanese universities to Korea during the summer vacation period to participate in a short-term educational program that combines major-specific courses with Korean cultural experiences.
As a part of this project, Sejong University will receive a budget of 200 million KRW to host approximately 20 undergraduate students from Japan over two years, from 2026 to 2027. The university has been actively increasing its exchange with Japanese institutions, having successfully attracted 262 non-degree students from Japan over the last three years. The university has established exchange student programs with various institutions like Kansai Gaidai University and Tsuru University, facilitating mutual student placements through a structured bridge program that transitions from short-term stays to regular semester exchanges and degree programs.
The program will focus on the university's major in Animation and Comics, featuring a curriculum centered around webtoon IP planning and production workshops alongside Korean language and cultural education. Furthermore, the program will enhance participants’ understanding of K-content through hands-on opportunities, such as special lectures by active webtoon creators and field trips to content companies. Lee Chung-hoon, the Director of the International Cooperation Office at Sejong University, emphasized the university's aim to offer unique educational experiences to outstanding Japanese students based on its specialized K-content educational capabilities and expressed intentions to strengthen exchanges beyond short-term programs to regular semester exchanges and international collaborative research efforts.
