Driving conditions will be poor nationwide tomorrow
Driving conditions across Finland are expected to be poor or very poor on Thursday, with significant snowfall and freezing rain anticipated.
According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, driving conditions will deteriorate across the country starting from midnight on Wednesday due to heavy snowfall, freezing drizzle, and a warming trend. On Thursday, regions in southern and central Finland may see snow accumulation of up to 15 centimeters. The widespread area of snow and sleet, combined with fluctuating weather conditions, will create unpredictable and rapidly changing driving environments as warned by Fintraffic's road traffic center.
Fintraffic is urging drivers to remain cautious of poor driving conditions, especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Motorists are advised to allow significantly more travel time than usual to accommodate potential delays caused by the adverse weather. The message emphasizes the importance of caution and preparedness as the conditions may present challenges for commuters across the country.
Sanna Piilinen, the head of the traffic center at Fintraffic, has also recommended that drivers maintain moderate speeds and ensure safe following distances to mitigate the risks of accidents. The guidance comes in light of the expected traffic complications due to the incoming winter weather, highlighting the need for increased awareness among all road users in Finland during this challenging time.
