Night brought danger to driving conditions

Driving conditions in Southern Finland are hazardous due to heavy snowfall, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute has reported hazardous driving conditions in Southern Finland due to heavy snowfall affecting areas including Varsinais-Suomi, Uusimaa, Päijät-Häme, Kymenlaakso, and South Karelia. Meteorologist Helena Laakso highlighted that the cold weather is causing snow to become powdery, which severely reduces visibility for drivers. A warning has been issued for potentially dangerous driving conditions as there might also be patches of freezing drizzle accompanying the snow.

Although the heavy snowfall is expected to weaken, meteorologists caution that snow showers are likely to continue into the afternoon and evening. The impact is more significant in southeastern and southern coastal areas, where road safety is a greater concern. In contrast, driving conditions are reported to be good elsewhere in Finland, where high-pressure weather is resulting in dry and calm weather, allowing for clearer skies in some regions, such as Lapland.

As the temperatures range from -10 to -30 degrees Celsius but are expected to rise during the day, it is crucial for motorists to stay informed of local weather updates. Proper precautions should be taken to navigate the roads safely during this challenging winter weather, especially in regions where snow has accumulated significantly.
