Detran-MS advises drivers on loss of license plates on rainy days
The Detran-MS has issued guidelines for drivers who lose their vehicle license plates during heavy rain, advising them to report the loss immediately to avoid misuse.
In light of heavy rains that can lead to flooding, the State Department of Transit of Mato Grosso do Sul (Detran-MS) is advising drivers on the potential risks of losing their vehicle plates. The agency emphasizes the importance of promptly reporting any loss by filing a police report, which can be done at any police station or online. This report acts as a protective measure for the driver in instances where the lost plate may be misused, and also allows them to drive legally until a replacement plate is obtained.
For vehicles equipped with the Mercosur license plates, which have a white background, owners are required to visit an authorized printing company with their police report to request a new plate. Conversely, for vehicles with the older gray plates, the process involves obtaining a police report, undergoing an inspection, and visiting a Detran-MS branch to request a new plate, which will be issued in the Mercosur format.
The Detran-MS also reassures vehicle owners that if a lost Mercosur plate is later recovered in good condition, it can be reinstalled, allowing the vehicle owner to continue driving without further issues. These guidelines aim to ensure that drivers are well-informed of their responsibilities and the necessary steps to take in case of a lost license plate during adverse weather conditions.
