Santos City Hall revokes points of street vendors due to irregularities; learn more
The city government of Santos has revoked street vendors' licenses for legal violations following inspections.
The Municipal Government of Santos, located on the coast of SΓ£o Paulo, is cracking down on street vendors by revoking their points of sale after administrative processes reveal several legal infractions. The actions were announced in the official publications of the city, detailing the decisions made by the Secretary of Regional Governments, Rivaldo Santos. The city emphasized that these revocations are the result of violations of local laws and do not affect the vendors' municipal registrations.
The specific infractions leading to these revocations include extended absence without justification, illegal subletting of vendor spots, and repeated violations of the regulations governing street commerce. As a result, out of 228 authorized vendors in Santos for the year 2025, only 135 have successfully registered for renewal, indicating a significant drop and suggesting that many vendors have yet to rectify their status with the municipality.
This initiative reflects the cityβs efforts to regulate street commerce and ensure compliance with municipal laws, aiming to improve the business environment and public order in local markets. The city government's actions may also imply a shift towards more stringent enforcement of regulations that govern street vendors, potentially impacting the livelihood of many who rely on this form of commerce.
