Siren tests at the Emborcação Dam in Araguari are taking place until Friday

The Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais is conducting individual tests of the warning sirens at the Emborcação Hydroelectric Plant from Tuesday to Friday.

The Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig) announced that it will conduct individual tests of the 19 warning sirens located in the Self-Salvage Zone (ZAS) of the Emborcação Hydroelectric Plant between Tuesday, the 24th, and Friday, the 27th. These tests are scheduled to occur daily from 9 AM to 5 PM. Residents living in the rural areas near the hydropower facility will hear a message informing them about the test procedure, clarifying that they do not need to evacuate their homes during this time.

These siren tests are part of the Emergency Action Plan (PAE) mandated by the National Dam Safety Policy of Brazil, which requires periodic checks of alert systems installed near dams. The primary goal of this operation is to ensure that the warning systems are functioning correctly and that the local population is familiar with the sound signals they may need to recognize in the event of a real emergency. By reinforcing public awareness and safety measures within the ZAS, Cemig aims to enhance overall community preparedness.

A recent simulation indicated the necessity for adjustments to the emergency alert system, underscoring the importance of these tests. The proactive approach demonstrates Cemig's commitment to ensuring safety and maintaining the reliability of the alert systems to inform residents about potential dangers effectively.
