Gates of Samuel Hydroelectric Plant will be opened and may raise the level of the Jamari River in RO on Saturday, 21
The Samuel Hydroelectric Plant in Brazil will open its spillway gates due to increased water flow, potentially raising the Jamari River's level temporarily.
AXIA Energia has announced that it will open the spillway gates at the Samuel Hydroelectric Plant located in Candeias de Jamari, Rondônia, on Saturday, the 21st. This decision was made in response to higher flows in the Jamari River and is part of the standard procedures established by the National Electricity System Operator (ONS) to maintain the reservoir's safety limits.
The company has warned that this operation could result in a temporary increase in the water level downstream of the hydropower plant. Residents and river users are advised to remain vigilant and take preventive measures. Recommendations include securing boats, fish nets, and equipment situated near the riverbanks, as well as adjusting any activities that might be adjusted due to water level fluctuations.
Wanderley Pereira dos Santos, an engineer from AXIA Energia's Water Resources and Energy Programming Management for the Northern region, has elaborated on the necessity of this operation to ensure the safety of the reservoir. Such measures emphasize the importance of community awareness and safety, particularly for those engaged in activities around the river, highlighting the interplay between energy management and environmental care.
