Duo arrested in operation investigating drug distribution logistics along Amazon rivers
Two men were arrested in an operation investigating the logistics of drug trafficking via the Amazon rivers, following a major cocaine seizure in Amapá.
In a significant law enforcement operation named 'Transbordo', two men were arrested on Monday, October 23, as part of an investigation into the logistics of drug trafficking through the rivers of the Amazon. This operation is linked to the largest cocaine seizure ever recorded in Amapá, which involved 400 kilograms of cocaine discovered in June 2025 in a forested area of the Abacate da Pedreira district in Macapá. The investigation revealed that the arrested individuals were involved in the transportation and storage of this cocaine, which was planned to be shipped via ships navigating the Amazon waterways.
The operation was coordinated by the Narcotics Repression Division (Denarc) of Amapá, with support from the Civil Police of São Paulo. During the operation, one of the suspects was apprehended inside a commercial establishment in Santos, while a third individual, also implicated in the drug trafficking network, has been identified but remains at large. This coordinated effort demonstrates the advanced investigative work being carried out to dismantle drug trafficking operations across the region.
Following their arrests, the two men were taken to the police station and are expected to face a custody hearing. The large cocaine seizure, which the Civil Police characterized as a significant blow to organized crime, underscores the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking in the Amazon region, an area often exploited for its extensive river systems to facilitate the movement of illegal narcotics.
