Firefighters in BH mobilized to assist flood victims in Zona da Mata

Emergency teams from Belo Horizonte have been deployed to assist during severe flooding in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais.

In response to significant rainfall impacting the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, 22 firefighters from the Military Fire Brigade of Minas Gerais based in Belo Horizonte have been mobilized for rescue operations. The operation involves over 90 military personnel responding to incidents of landslides across at least 15 locations, utilizing advanced detection equipment designed to locate trapped individuals by sound and heartbeat detection. A search dog has also been dispatched to support the efforts, collaborating with a detection dog already in the field.

The teams face challenges due to the hazards created by landslides and are following established protocols typically used in debris searches. This includes dividing areas into manageable zones and assessing risks to both the public and the firefighters involved in the operations. The deployment of specialized equipment, including cutting and stabilization tools, emphasizes the urgency and severity of the situation, ensuring that they can effectively tackle the hazards presented by the floods.

To enhance operational efficiency and resource deployment, the command post for the operation is being relocated to the 4th Integrated Public Security Region in Juiz de Fora, allowing for better coordination of rescue efforts in a region heavily affected by these natural elements. This mobilization reflects a concerted effort by local authorities to manage the disaster and support affected communities during this critical time.
