Firefighter from PA travels to MG to provide voluntary support to flood victims in Zona da Mata: 'Reduce suffering'

A Pará firefighter traveled to Minas Gerais to offer psychological support to flood victims following devastating rains in the region.

Mário Brito, a firefighter and psychologist with 19 years of service from Pará, was called by the National Health Force to provide psychological support to victims affected by severe floods in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais. The area, particularly cities like Juiz de Fora, Ubá, and Matias Barbosa, experienced extreme rainfall exceeding 700 mm in February, leading to landslides and fatalities, which put a heavy strain on local services. Arriving on February 27 along with other volunteers, Brito participated in the humanitarian mission for ten days, focusing on emergency meetings and mitigating risks while providing critical support to those in distress. He emphasized his dedication to the cause, stating that being a firefighter is a choice driven by the understanding of the important role they play in saving lives and alleviating suffering. Brito, who has lived in Pará for 35 years but is originally from Araguaína, believes in the motto of firefighters: 'Save other lives and riches.' His recent deployment highlights the collective response to natural disasters in Brazil and the necessity for professional support in addressing the psychological impact on flood victims.
