Action Against Adulterators Before Holi, 2500 Kg of Cheese and 200 Kg of Mawa Destroyed in 72 Hours
Ahead of Holi and Ramadan, food safety authorities in Ghaziabad and Hapur launched a crackdown on adulterators, destroying significant quantities of counterfeit dairy products.
In a preemptive measure amidst the upcoming festivals of Holi and Ramadan, the food safety department in Ghaziabad and Hapur has intensified its campaign against food adulteration. Over the past three days, five teams have been conducting relentless raids, resulting in the seizure and destruction of 2500 kg of counterfeit cheese and 200 kg of 'mawa' (reduced milk) in Ghaziabad alone. This operation aims to ensure the safety of food products available in the market during the festive season, reflecting the authorities' commitment to public health.
According to Chief Food Safety Officer Ashutosh Rai, since the 22nd of the month, around 25 quintals of cheese, valued at over 750,000 INR, have been confiscated and destroyed. The operations have been thorough, with seized products buried underground as a disposal method to prevent further consumption. The department has also sent 30 to 35 samples of the confiscated items for laboratory testing to ensure that they are thoroughly examined for safety and quality compliance.
This crackdown is particularly significant as it targets supplies meant for the Delhi NCR region, which reportedly includes products from Aligarh, Amroha, and Baghpat. The aggressive action taken by the food safety authorities highlights the important role they play in safeguarding consumer health, especially during festive periods when the demand for food products spikes, potentially increasing risks related to food adulteration. As festivals approach, such initiatives are crucial for maintaining trust in food systems and protecting public health.
