Police seize six firearms at home of domestic violence suspect in Cerquilho

The Civil Police seized six firearms from the home of a man being investigated for domestic violence in Cerquilho, Brazil.

On Monday, the Civil Police conducted a search at the home of a man under investigation for domestic violence in the rural area of Cerquilho, São Paulo, resulting in the seizure of six firearms. These actions were initiated as a part of enforcing a protective measure linked to complaints made by the suspect's ex-partner. The police articulated that the seized firearms were alleged to have been used to threaten the victim during incidents of domestic violence that were reported.

Among the firearms confiscated were two shotguns, a 9mm revolver, a 9mm pistol, and a .17 caliber rifle. The police noted that even though the suspect had documentation that labeled him as a Collector, Sports Shooter, and Hunter (CAC), they still recognized the seriousness of the situation. The firearms were evidently used in threats against the ex-wife, highlighting the continued risks associated with domestic violence.

Despite the serious nature of the accusations, the suspect was not arrested because he could provide valid documentation for the firearms. He is expected to respond to the charges regarding the threats against his ex-wife while remaining at liberty, which has raised concerns about the enforcement of laws designed to protect victims of domestic violence in Brazil.
