Young Athletics Athletes Set Two Records at the Baltic Championships
Young Estonian athletes set two new records at the Baltic U-18 Championships held in Valmiera.
The Baltic U-18 Team Championships took place in Valmiera, where emerging young athletes from Estonia competed against teams from Latvia and Lithuania. Despite the commendable performances, the Estonian team finished in second place for the second consecutive year, just two points shy of Latvia, which secured the championship with 204 points compared to Estonia's 202 points. Lithuania lagged behind with 151 points in total.
Among the highlights of the event, Andrei Klimov set a new U-18 Estonian record in the men's 5000 m race walk, finishing first with a time of 23:30.88, surpassing the previous record held by Risko Nogelainen since 2005. The day concluded with the mixed 4Γ400 m relay, where the Estonian team secured second place and achieved a new record of 3:38.43, breaking their own previous record set four years ago at the same event.
These accomplishments underline the growing talent within Estonian athletics at the youth level, demonstrating potential for future international competitions. With two significant records established, the event not only showcased the competitors' skills but also highlighted the competition's intensity, asserting the need for continued support and development in the sport within Estonia.
