Athletes Uku Renek Kronbergs and Deniss Šalkauskas broke new short-distance running records for Estonia at a memorial athletics event in Tartu.

Uku Renek Kronbergs and Deniss Šalkauskas notably made headlines on Friday by breaking Estonian short-distance records during the Martin Kutman Memorial Athletics Competition held in Tartu. Kronbergs secured the 600m race victory, setting a new record time of 1:16.76, surpassing his previous record of 1:16.93 that he set at the same event last year, as reported by the Estonian Athletics Association. This highlights both the competitive spirit and the growing prowess of Estonian athletes in track and field events.

In addition to Kronbergs’ remarkable achievement, the female 600m race was won by Viola Hambidge from TÜASK, clocking in at 1:29.73. The competition also marked an impressive season opener for Õilme Võro, who won the 60m race with a time of 7.41, narrowly beating Ann Marii Kivikas, who finished second. The event showcased emerging talents and established athletes alike, demonstrating the depth of talent in Estonian athletics.

Other standout performances included Henri Apri winning the men's pole vault with a height of 5.05m, while Ukrainian athlete Olha Beltšenko won the women’s event with a vault of 4.35m.
