Kesko and S Group: Surprising Collaboration
Kesko and S Group are initiating a pilot project in Finland to test reusable take-away containers as part of their cooperation efforts.
Kesko and S Group, two major competitors in the Finnish grocery market, are embarking on an unexpected collaboration to pilot reusable take-away containers. This initiative, known as Kiertis, will allow customers to opt for a deposit-based reusable container while ordering take-away food at selected locations, including Prisma and K-Supermarket. The pilot program will initially be implemented in Espoo, starting in March, and is focused on pilot stores such as Lippulaivan Prisma and Sellon Prisma.
The driving force behind this project is to address the increasing waste generated from disposable packaging, particularly as the demand for take-away food continues to rise. With the growing popularity of convenience food options, the amount of single-use packaging waste has surged, prompting retailers to seek more sustainable alternatives. By introducing reusable containers, both Kesko and S Group aim to reduce their environmental impact and cater to eco-conscious consumers.
Furthermore, through this pilot scheme, the companies will gauge customer interest in reusable packaging and evaluate the efficiency of the return system for these containers. The outcomes of this initiative may set a precedent for future collaborations in the retail sector and highlight the importance of sustainable practices in the grocery industry, especially amid increasing public awareness of environmental issues.
