Kim Dong-yeon strongly urges the cancellation of the 'March 1st Freedom Concert' at KINTEX organized by Jeon Han-gil

Kim Dong-yeon, the governor of Gyeonggi Province, has demanded the cancellation of a controversial 'March 1st Freedom Concert' organized by far-right YouTuber Jeon Han-gil at KINTEX due to misleading information about the event and its performers.

Kim Dong-yeon, the governor of Gyeonggi Province, has taken a strong stance against a planned event dubbed the 'March 1st Freedom Concert,' which is organized by far-right YouTuber Jeon Han-gil. The concert has sparked controversy over allegations of misrepresentation regarding its performers and the nature of the event itself. On the night of March 23, the governor contacted KINTEX President Kim Min-woo to demand the cancellation of the venue reservation, citing KINTEX guidelines that allow for the refusal of venue bookings for events deemed socially unacceptable.

The controversy intensified after Jeon Han-gil promoted the concert on his YouTube channel, claiming it would deliver messages against electoral fraud and other political themes. The promotional materials for the event listed well-known performers, including singer Tae Jin-ah, but soon after, Tae Jin-ah's agency announced they had been misled into thinking the event was legitimate. The agency intends to respond legally to the false representations made regarding Tae Jin-ah's involvement, indicating an increasingly tense situation around the concert.

Several performers who were initially slated to participate, such as announcer Lee Jae-yong and the singer Bank, also expressed their decision to withdraw after realizing the political implications of the event. Most had believed they were participating in a simple performance to commemorate the March 1st Independence Movement, highlighting the differences in understanding of the event's nature among the organizers, artists, and the public. This incident reflects broader societal tensions within South Korea regarding political protests and events associated with far-right ideologies.
