Book with nearly 40 authors revives memories of the elderly and encourages art with illustrations of woodcuts in the interior of SP

A collaborative book titled 'Bauru de Memórias' features nearly 40 authors over the age of 50, sharing their personal stories and memories through a series of workshops.

The book 'Bauru de Memórias' compiles the memories and life stories of 38 individuals over 50 years old in Bauru, who participated in an initiative aimed at preserving their experiences through art. This project, held by the Serviço de Convivência e Fortalecimento de Vínculos ID. Melhor Idade, encourages creativity and community engagement, allowing participants to contribute their personal narratives once they have made the city their home.

The creative writing and drawing workshops took place weekly from May to December 2025, at Casa de Cursilhos in Jardim Ouro Verde. Conducted by art educators Gustavo Henrique Oliveira and Natália Bispo, the program emphasized not only self-expression through writing but also the importance of visual arts, notably through illustrations based on traditional woodcut techniques. Many of the participants were referred through local social services and come from vulnerable backgrounds, highlighting the program's broader social impact.

Through this literary project, the elderly participants were not only able to document their past but also foster a sense of pride and community within Bauru. The inclusion of woodcut illustrations adds an artistic touch, encouraging appreciation for traditional art forms and enhancing the book's aesthetic value. Overall, 'Bauru de Memórias' serves as a vital tool for storytelling and cultural preservation within the region.
