Pataxó Canal: 30 years after its inauguration, RN plans nearly R$ 10 million for recovery work

The government of Rio Grande do Norte has announced plans to invest R$ 9.8 million in the recovery of the Pataxó Canal, marking the first major intervention in its 30-year history.

The government of the state of Rio Grande do Norte has published a bidding notice for the recovery of the Pataxó Canal, a significant infrastructure project that spans nine kilometers. This initiative marks the first substantial structural intervention since the canal's inauguration in 1996. The planned investment of R$ 9.8 million aims to ensure the longevity of the water supply from the Armando Ribeiro Gonçalves Dam in Assu to the Pataxó River.

Paulo Varella, the state secretary for Environment and Water Resources, emphasized the complexity of the project, which will be executed in phases to avoid disrupting water supply to the cities that benefit from the canal. This strategic approach aims to efficiently manage the project timeline and maintain essential services throughout the recovery. With an expected completion time of 12 months, the intervention aims not only to restore functionality but also to address issues such as leaks within the canal structure.

This recovery project is significant for the local communities relying on the canal for their water supply, and it heralds a much-anticipated improvement to an aging infrastructure. By revitalizing the Pataxó Canal, the government is taking crucial steps to enhance water management in the region and safeguard resources against potential future challenges.
