Wants to be the first pizzeria with a Michelin star
Papa John's aims to become the first pizzeria ever to receive a Michelin star, launching a new Pan Pizza it believes meets Michelin's stringent criteria.
In a groundbreaking effort, the American fast-food chain Papa John's has announced its ambition to be the first pizzeria in history to earn a Michelin star. Despite the presence of 70 pizzerias listed in the Michelin guide, none have yet claimed this prestigious accolade. The chain is introducing its new Pan Pizza, which boasts a unique garlic-parmesan crust and a blend of six cheeses including mozzarella, provolone, and fontina, as a worthy contender for Michelin's esteemed recognition.
To promote this ambitious venture, Papa John's is transforming a restaurant in Manhattan into an exclusive dining venue for one night only, offering members of their Papa Rewards program a special three-course meal centered around the new pizza, complemented by Pepsi served by a dedicated soda sommelier. The marketing strategy, as explained by Jenna Bromberg, the chain's chief marketing officer, reflects a heartfelt tribute to pizza—a food that has been integral to cherished moments and memories over decades.
While Papa John's currently does not operate in Norway, local representatives like Rune Sandvik have noted the release of this news, which can generate interest in gourmet pizza options in their market. The endeavor emphasizes the growing trend of fast-food brands seeking recognition in fine dining, potentially reshaping the perception of pizza as more than just casual fare but as a candidate for gourmet status.
