A wildfire that broke out in Goseong, Gangwon Province, was successfully extinguished approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes after it ignited. The fire, which started at around 7:22 PM on the evening of the 22nd in Inheung-ri, Goseong, was brought under control by 9:15 PM, according to the fire authorities. Initial firefighting efforts were implemented quickly with a full mobilization of personnel from the local fire department, followed by a second-level response phase that involved nearby fire stations at around 8:32 PM.
As strong winds exacerbated the situation, residents in the affected area were advised to evacuate to the administrative welfare center in Toseong-myeon due to the potential spread of the fire. At its peak, the flames were reported to have spread up to 200 meters, prompting immediate action. By the time of the fire incident, Goseong was under a dry warning with wind speeds of approximately 5.2 meters per second and humidity levels recorded at a mere 10%, conditions that contributed to the fire's rapid development.
Fortunately, fire officials indicated that while the wildfire had the potential to spread, it primarily remained on the ground and did not extend into the foliage or elevated areas, leading to a lower risk of further expansion. Having concluded the main firefighting operations, teams are now focused on mopping up residual embers and monitoring for any rekindling of the fire, ensuring the safety of the surrounding communities.
