Bodies of Mamonas Assassinas to be exhumed 30 years after fatal accident
The bodies of the Mamonas Assassinas band members will be exhumed for cremation to create a memorial in their honor.
The bodies of Mamonas Assassinas band members Dinho, Bento Hinoto, Samuel Reoli, Júlio Rasec, and Sérgio Reoli will be exhumed on Monday, October 23, almost three decades after a plane crash tragically took their lives in March 1996. The families have given permission for the cremation of the musicians’ remains, alongside plans to plant five trees at a memorial garden in the Primaveras Cemetery in Guarulhos, São Paulo, where the band members were originally buried. This initiative is intended to honor their legacy and provide a place for fans and family to remember them.
Jorge Santana, a cousin of Dinho and the current manager for the Mamonas brand, expressed pride and excitement for the project, describing it as a beautiful way to commemorate the irreverent band that remains beloved in Brazil. "It will be a memorial filled with good memories and pictures, with each tree symbolizing one of the artists," he shared. As part of this project, the ashes of the band members will be mixed with the soil of new trees, embracing a concept that integrates memories with nature.
The memorial will be developed in partnership with BioParque, a Brazilian company known for creating environmentally friendly memorials using biodegradable urns. This venture not only aims to honor the Mamonas Assassinas but also reflects a growing trend of using nature to celebrate the lives of those who have passed, providing a serene space for reflection and remembrance for all who visit the garden.
