Warning from meteorologist to drivers
A meteorologist warns drivers about hazardous winter conditions as snow is expected across Finland this Saturday, with varying accumulations and potential icy conditions.
Foreca, a Finnish meteorological service, has issued warnings for drivers as snow is forecasted across Finland on Saturday, with accumulations expected to range between 2 to 10 centimeters. Snowfall will begin in Lapland on Friday, with scattered snow showers spreading throughout the country on Saturday. In addition to the snow, the roads may become slippery due to frost, making driving conditions hazardous.
In southern and central Finland, moderate winds from the southwest on Saturday will exacerbate the situation by blowing snow around and creating drifts. With the increase in winter traffic associated with school holidays, it is crucial for drivers to exercise caution and allow more time for their journeys. As temperatures vary significantly, drivers should prepare for changing conditions, which can differ widely depending on the region.
As evening approaches, temperatures will drop further, especially in southern and eastern Finland, where it will range from 2 to 8 degrees below zero, while western areas will see temperatures drop to between 5 and 15 degrees below zero. By night, frost will intensify, leading to a denser area of snowfall moving eastward, while clearer skies are expected in the west and especially in Lapland later in the evening.
