Leader of 'political nucleus' of Comando Vermelho in AM is fugitive, says police
Allan Kleber Bezerra Lima, alleged leader of the Comando Vermelho's political faction in Amazonas, is on the run following a police operation that led to the arrest of several individuals involved in drug trafficking.
Allan Kleber Bezerra Lima, identified as the leader of the 'political nucleus' connected to Comando Vermelho in the Amazon state of Brazil, is currently considered a fugitive after a police operation that took place on Friday (20th). Authorities have revealed that he oversaw a drug trafficking scheme that involved the use of front companies and assistance from public officials to facilitate the group's operations. This revelation points to an organized network that blends drug crime with legitimate forms of business to mask illicit activities.
The police operation executed 14 arrest warrants, primarily within the state of Amazonas, highlighting the scale of the network. Notably, among those apprehended were the former chief of staff to the mayor of Manaus and an employee from the state's Court of Justice, suggesting deep-rooted corruption and complicity at various levels of government. This underlines a systemic issue in the region where law enforcement and drug trafficking intersect with local government officials.
Furthermore, Allan Kleber reportedly utilized evangelical churches as a facade to evade law enforcement. He attended church services, donned attire associated with the religious community, and had previously hidden drugs within a temple in East Manaus. Such tactics reflect an alarming trend where criminal elements exploit community trust to serve their interests, posing a significant challenge for authorities aiming to dismantle drug-related operations.
