Price difference of repellents reaches almost 80% in Taubaté, points out Procon
A survey by Procon in Taubaté highlights significant price disparities in repellent products across the city, with some prices varying by as much as 80%.
A survey conducted by Procon in Taubaté revealed that there are notable discrepancies in the prices of repellents sold at local pharmacies. One of the examined products, a 100 ml lotion, was found to cost R$ 22.50 at one establishment and R$ 39.99 at another, marking a staggering difference of R$ 17.49. Other notable price variations include a 170 ml spray, priced between R$ 22.99 and R$ 39.99, and a 200 ml lotion ranging from R$ 19.90 to R$ 34.90.
The City Hall stated that the research was prompted by a spike in the demand for repellents during this time of year, which coincides with the heightened incidence of dengue fever in Brazil. Conducted on February 11 and 12 across 14 different establishments, the findings aim to inform consumers about the varying prices in the market, facilitating better purchasing decisions.
With the rise in dengue cases, the importance of such consumer awareness initiatives cannot be overstated. By educating the public on price fluctuations, local authorities hope to encourage competition among businesses and ensure that residents access affordable protection against mosquito-borne diseases. The findings thus serve not only an informational purpose but also a public health one, especially in the context of the ongoing health challenges posed by dengue.
