The segment of Jūrmala Road to the Riga border will be transformed into a two-way road

The municipality decided to allow two-way traffic on a section of Jūrmala Road based on resident suggestions after renovations at a nearby intersection.

The municipality of Jūrmala has approved changes to the traffic flow on a section of Jūrmala Road from Beberbeķu Street to the city border, enabling two-way vehicle movement. This decision was influenced by local residents' feedback following the recent reconstruction of the intersection at Slokas Street and the A5 highway in Mārupes Municipality. The aim is to improve traffic conditions and accessibility in the area while responding to communal needs.

Despite the shift to two-way traffic, the speed limit for vehicles on this road will remain unchanged at 50 km/h. Additionally, the number of pedestrian crossings and pedestrian movement will not be affected by these changes, ensuring safety for those walking in the area. The municipality is overseeing the modifications to balance vehicle flow with pedestrian safety.

To further manage traffic, the municipality is implementing restrictions on freight transport along Jūrmala Road, prohibiting transit freight traffic from the Riga border to Kurzemes Boulevard, as well as on Kurzemes Boulevard from Slokas Street to Jūrmala Road. However, freight transport will still retain access to Kurzemes Boulevard through Slokas Street, maintaining necessary logistics while reducing heavy traffic on key routes.
