In Jūrmala, dangerous safety barrier remains unrepaired a month after the accident, replacement will take time
A safety barrier on the Lielupe Bridge in Jūrmala has not been repaired for over a month following a traffic accident, posing a danger to motorists.
On February 2nd, a traffic accident occurred on the Lielupe Bridge in Jūrmala, and despite the pivotal role of traffic safety elements, the damaged barrier has yet to be replaced a month after the incident. Concerned citizens, including a viewer of the program '4. studija', have raised questions about why such a critical safety element is still in disrepair. Notably, fragments of the barrier are precariously positioned on the roadway, heightening risks to traffic safety.
Traffic safety expert Oskars Irbītis commented on the situation, explaining that this particular barrier is not standard; rather, it is a specialized structure designed to absorb impact effectively. He suggested that, had it not been for the barrier's design, the driver involved in the recent accident could have faced severe consequences, potentially leading to more serious injuries or fatalities.
The delay in the replacement of the barrier raises concerns regarding traffic safety management in the area. The ongoing presence of the damaged structure not only questions the efficiency of local authorities in addressing such incidents but also highlights the need for immediate attention to ensure the safety of all who use the bridge. Until repairs are made, the risk to motorists remains unacceptably high, putting the urgency of infrastructure maintenance at the forefront of public discussion.
