Kebbi, Sokoto adjust school calendars for Ramadan
Kebbi and Sokoto States in Nigeria have revised their school calendars to accommodate the Ramadan period, extending the Second Term and adjusting holiday schedules.
In response to the ongoing Ramadan fast, the educational authorities in Kebbi and Sokoto States in Nigeria have made adjustments to their academic calendars for the 2025/2026 school year. Kebbi Stateβs Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced a two-week extension of the Second Term for all public and private primary schools, moving the end date from February 13 to February 27, 2026. This change aims to ensure that students receive adequate academic instruction prior to the start of Ramadan, thereby maintaining educational continuity amidst the fasting period.
The revised schedule now states that the Ramadan break will commence on February 28 and continue until March 21, with schools set to resume on March 22, 2026. The term will officially close on May 1, 2026. This decision, supported by the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, underscores the importance of accommodating religious practices within the educational framework, allowing students and staff to participate fully in Ramadan without compromising their educational commitments.
Such adjustments reflect a broader understanding within Nigerian educational policies that recognize the cultural and religious dynamics at play in the country. By rescheduling term dates, the authorities not only facilitate students' engagement in daily fasting but also promote a balanced academic calendar that respects significant cultural events. This approach may lead to more harmonious school environments during Ramadan and enhance community support for educational institutions in these regions.
