The combat shooting training zone was ceremoniously opened at the 'Sēlija' training ground
A combat shooting training zone at Latvia's military training ground 'Sēlija' has been officially inaugurated, marking a significant step in enhancing the country's defense infrastructure.
Latvia has taken a substantial step towards strengthening its defense capabilities with the ceremonial opening of a combat shooting training zone at the 'Sēlija' military training ground. The event, attended by President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Minister of Defense Andris Sprūds, highlights the completion of the first stage of the training ground's development, which involved an investment of approximately 36.5 million euros. This development is aimed at bolstering the operational readiness and logistical support for military units.
The first phase of the project includes the establishment of several key facilities, such as a logistics support area for units up to the company level, ammunition storage, three shooting ranges, and a zone for unexploded ordnance. Overall, around 15,590 hectares, which represents roughly 61% of the planned training ground area, has been incorporated and developed under this initial phase. The investment signifies Latvia's commitment to enhancing its military infrastructure in response to evolving security challenges in the region.
The inauguration of the training zone is not only a milestone for Latvia's military readiness but also reflects the government’s dedication to improving defense capabilities. The presence of high-ranking officials at the opening underscores the significance of this development for national security. As Latvia continues to expand its military training capacity, collaborative efforts with NATO and other allies will likely intensify, enhancing the collective security of the region.
