Colonel Miezītis: The 'Sēlija' Polygon Allows the NBS to Turn a New Page
Colonel Kaspars Miezītis announced that the new military polygon 'Sēlija' will enhance the National Armed Forces' capabilities by facilitating brigade-level training.
Colonel Kaspars Miezītis, the head of the State Defense Military Objects and Procurement Center, spoke in an interview on Latvian Television's 'Morning Panorama' about the significance of the new military polygon 'Sēlija'. He highlighted that while previously, the National Armed Forces (NBS) focused on training at the company and battalion levels, the new polygon will support brigade-level training, thereby increasing the participation of troops ranging from 1,500 to about 5,000 soldiers, along with their assigned weaponry and transportation systems.
Miezītis detailed that other polygons available to the NBS do not meet the training capacity requirements to properly prepare soldiers. He emphasized that with the intensive utilization of the 'Sēlija' polygon, a new era in military training is being ushered in, which will greatly contribute to improving unit preparedness. This polygon is considered the most significant project for the State Defense Military Objects and Procurement Center from a construction standpoint, indicating its importance for national defense.
Regarding land acquisition for the polygon's needs, Miezītis mentioned that the NBS is committed to addressing the challenges that arise from the process of land requisitioning necessary for the polygon's operational requirements. This underscores the commitment of the Latvian military to enhance its training infrastructure and overall readiness in response to evolving security challenges.
