On February 24, Latvia will commemorate the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine by hosting a support event titled 'Together to victory!' at the Freedom Monument. The event is set to begin at sunrise, 7:30 AM, and will last for thirty minutes. Participants are invited to gather in a specially designated area, where they will form the shape of Ukraine while joining together with 15 choirs and ensembles, as well as other musicians to sing in solidarity for Ukraine. The event will be hosted by actress Guna Zariņa from the New Riga Theatre.
The occasion will commence with a moment of silence intended to honor those whose voices have been silenced forever. Following this solemn moment, under the direction of conductor Matīss Tučs, the national anthems of both Latvia and Ukraine will be performed. The songs 'Truth', 'The Song of Your Beginning?', 'Not Your War', and 'The Green Song' will also be sung, with performances by soloists Aija Vītoliņa, Daumants Kalniņš, and Artjoms Basovs. Participants are encouraged to bring yellow and blue flags, reflecting the colors of the Ukrainian flag, to show their solidarity.
This event not only serves as a demonstration of support for Ukraine but also highlights the enduring connection and solidarity between Latvia and Ukraine in the face of aggression. The gathering aims to unify people through cultural expressions and remembrance, reinforcing the message that the fight for Ukraine is shared collectively by neighboring countries and those who stand against oppression.
