The Busan Democratic Uprising Memorial Foundation is calling for applications for research support until next month to foster academic research and the next generation in the field of modern Korean democratization movements related to the uprising.

The Busan Democratic Uprising Memorial Foundation has announced an open call for research proposals until next month, aiming to foster a foundation for studies related to the Busan Democratic Uprising while nurturing the next generation of scholars. The applicants should hold at least a master's degree or be affiliated with academic institutions, and the focus of the research must pertain to the modern democratization movements in South Korea linked to the Busan Uprising. The application process involves downloading a research proposal form from the foundation's website and submitting it via email.

The foundation plans to select four research topics, awarding up to 3 million won for each project. Additionally, articles submitted to qualified journals would receive monetary support, with an initial payment of 2 million won upon submission and an additional 1 million won granted once the publication is confirmed. This initiative not only aims to advance academic research but also emphasizes the importance of progressing the scholarly understanding of the Busan Democratic Uprising, which remains a critical event in South Korea's history.

Park Sang-do, the chairman of the foundation, expressed a commitment to sustaining the spirit of the Busan Democratic Uprising and enhancing the academic expertise surrounding this significant area of research for future scholars. The Busan Democratic Uprising, acknowledged as one of the four major democratization movements in Korea alongside the April 19 Revolution, the May 18 Gwangju Uprising, and the June 10 Democracy Movement, originated on October 16, 1979, in Busan and was a response to authoritarian rule, marking a pivotal moment that contributed to the eventual end of the Yushin dictatorship.
