Vale and Bragantina region start 2026 with a 27% decrease in traffic deaths, says Infosiga

The Vale do Paraíba and Bragantina region experienced a 27% decrease in traffic fatalities in January 2026 compared to the previous year, according to Infosiga data released by Detran-SP.

According to a recent report by Infosiga, traffic in the Vale do Paraíba and Bragantina region has shown significant improvement at the start of 2026, with a 27% reduction in traffic deaths compared to January 2025. The data was published by Detran-SP and highlights that the region recorded a total of 32 fatal traffic incidents in January 2026, down from 44 in the same month the prior year. This equates to an average of one death per day, indicating a positive trend in road safety for the area.

The demographic breakdown of the 32 traffic fatalities reveals that 24 were men, illustrating that males are disproportionately represented in these tragic incidents. With 75% of the total fatalities being male, it raises questions about gender differences in traffic risk behavior. Additionally, nearly half of those who lost their lives (15 out of 32) were riding motorcycles at the time of their accidents, further highlighting issues related to motorcycle safety in the region.

Among the cities analyzed, Bragança Paulista reported the highest number of fatalities with six deaths in January alone. This data can serve as a critical indicator for local authorities to enhance traffic safety measures and targeted interventions in regions with higher fatality rates, particularly in motorcycle safety and male-centric risk behavior in traffic. Overall, the significance of this data lies in its potential to influence future traffic regulations and community awareness initiatives aimed at reducing road fatalities further in the coming months.
