For the 5th consecutive year, Jacareí has the safest traffic in the Vale do Paraíba
Jacareí recorded the lowest number of traffic fatalities among municipalities with over 200,000 residents in 2025, making it the safest city in its region for the fifth year in a row.
In 2025, Jacareí concluded the year with the fewest traffic fatalities among cities in the Vale do Paraíba with populations exceeding 200,000. This achievement is significant as it marks the fifth consecutive year that Jacareí has led in this critical traffic safety metric, as reported by official data from the INFOSIGA system of Detran-SP. This sustained success highlights the city's continued commitment to improving road safety and urban mobility.
The data indicates that around 70% of traffic deaths in Jacareí involved motorcyclists, underscoring the vulnerability of this group and the urgent need for targeted protective measures. Investigations into fatal traffic accidents reveal that a staggering 94% were caused by reckless driving. This alarming statistic calls for more stringent enforcement of traffic regulations and the implementation of educational campaigns to promote safer driving practices, particularly among motorcyclists.
Jacareí's urban mobility management has made significant strides over the years, notably through the Heavy Cargo Routes project initiated in 2017. This initiative aims to reduce the number of trucks diverting from toll roads into the city's central streets. As a result of these efforts, since 2022, Jacareí has successfully eliminated fatalities caused by trucks, demonstrating the effectiveness of targeted urban planning and traffic management strategies.
