Piauí intensifies inspections and seizes illegal pesticides in the North of the State

The government of Piauí has intensified its inspections on pesticide commerce and usage in the northern region, seizing illegal products during a recent operation.

The Piauí state government, through the Agricultural Defense Agency (Adapi), conducted an operation from February 9 to 13 targeting the commerce and use of pesticides in four municipalities: Campo Maior, Jatobá do Piauí, Sigefredo Pacheco, and Nossa Senhora de Nazaré. The operation was part of a broader effort to ensure compliance with regulations concerning the sale and application of agricultural chemicals in these areas.

During the inspections, the Adapi team issued 14 oversight reports, five notifications, five closure orders, and two infraction notices. This significant enforcement action resulted in the confiscation of 136 liters of liquid pesticides and 6 kilograms of powder products that failed to meet legal standards related to their sale, storage, or use. The focus was to check the legality of commercial establishments and the integrity of product storage conditions.

This heightened scrutiny reflects a growing concern over the safety and regulation of pesticide usage in agriculture, aiming to protect both public health and the environment. Such initiatives may resonate with the agricultural community in Piauí, emphasizing the importance of safe agricultural practices while ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations.
