Successfully Driving Out Winter: Forecasters Predict Thaw and Already See Spring
Lithuanian forecasters predict a thaw and the onset of spring as temperatures rise and snow begins to melt over the coming days.
Meteorological service Meteo.lt has reported that Lithuania will experience drier weather on Friday, but snow is forecasted again for Saturday in many regions. Starting Sunday, warmer westerly air streams will reach the country, which will initiate a thaw, resulting in mixed precipitation including sleet and rain. Consequently, snow and ice are expected to start melting, marking the gradual arrival of what is referred to as 'water spring.' However, the thick layer of snow and ice covering water bodies will prolong the melting process.
Forecaster Paulius Starkus told LRT television that on Sunday, temperatures across much of Lithuania will be between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius. On Monday, temperatures are also expected to range from 0 to 4 degrees, with precipitation likely in the form of sleet and rain. The warming trend is expected to continue into the second half of the week, indicating a significant change in the weather pattern.
Meteorologist Gytis Valaika emphasized on his social media account 'Weather and Climate in Lithuania' that the central question remains whether this will be a short-lived thaw or the actual beginning of early water spring. He alerts the public to prepare for possible flooding and ice melting as they navigate through this transitional weather period.
