Waiting for a warm start to spring: thermometers will rise to 10 degrees
Spring is approaching in Lithuania with rising temperatures and melting snow on the way.
The weather forecast for Lithuania indicates a slight increase in temperatures as the nation anticipates the arrival of spring. On Monday, light rain is expected in some areas, and there may be instances of freezing rain overnight, with temperatures ranging from -3 to +2 degrees Celsius. Winds will be moderate, shifting from south-west and west to north-west during the day, and the temperatures are expected to reach up to 9 degrees in the southern region later in the week.
As the week progresses, there are no significant precipitation events, but there will be a risk of overnight frost and fog in certain areas. The temperatures will hover between -2 and +6 degrees Celsius, with colder nights and milder days. On February 28, fluctuations in water levels of up to 28 cm per day are being observed in many rivers across the country, indicating the onset of spring melt with snow starting to thaw and ice conditions changing.
In the coming days, it is expected that snow cover will continue to melt more intensively, particularly in the southern regions. As the temperatures rise, the ice on the rivers will begin to break down further, allowing for increased water flow and more rapid snowmelt. This change may lead to greater numbers of ice patches and breaks appearing along the riverbanks, marking a significant shift towards the spring season in Lithuania.
