Army to screen children of fallen soldiers for education sponsorship
The Nigerian Army is set to conduct a nationwide screening of children of deceased personnel for an education sponsorship program for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The Nigerian Army has initiated a nationwide verification and screening exercise to identify children of fallen soldiers who will be eligible for educational sponsorship under its welfare programs. This initiative is aimed at providing educational opportunities from the primary to tertiary level for children whose parents served and died in active duty. The exercise will take place across all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, highlighting the Army’s commitment to supporting the families of its personnel in their time of need.
The nationwide screening is scheduled to unfold from February to March 2026, with specific dates and locations assigned to each zone. For instance, the South-South zone will conduct its screening from February 23 to 26 at the 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, and similar exercises will take place in Enugu and Ibadan in the following weeks. This strategy not only assists children with their educational pursuits but also reflects the Army's broader welfare schemes designed to honor and support the legacy of those who served.
Overall, the educational sponsorship program serves as a significant gesture by the Nigerian Army, recognizing the sacrifices made by its personnel. By investing in the education of these children, the Army aims to create a supportive environment that fosters future opportunities and uplifts the families of its fallen heroes, showcasing a commitment to their welfare even after their loss.
