Accidents in Latvia's regions – where drivers should be most cautious?

Recent data from BTA Baltic Insurance Company reveals that the Vidzeme region has the highest incidence of traffic accidents in Latvia over the past three years, accounting for 46% of KASKO insurance claims.

Over the last three years, the Vidzeme region of Latvia has stood out with the highest percentage of KASKO insurance claims due to accidents, amounting to 46% according to the latest report by BTA Baltic Insurance Company. The figures highlight a pronounced risk associated with road traffic accidents, which are predominant across all Latvian regions. However, the second most significant threat to vehicles stems from windshield damage, indicating that while collisions are critical, other vehicle-related risks should not be overlooked.

Additionally, the report brings attention to severe incidents such as the fire in OgrΔ“ where a bus ignited, leading to the destruction of two nearby vehicles and resulting in damages exceeding 340,000 euros. This underlines the various risks that drivers face beyond just traffic incidents. As Ivo Danče, the Director of the Insurance Claims Department at BTA, pointed out, the data reflects not only the importance of safe driving practices but also the potential hazards posed by road surface conditions and weather changes that can significantly impact vehicle safety.

In terms of regional claims, following Vidzeme, KurzemΔ“ accounted for 21% of claims, while Zemgale and Latgale recorded 18% and 15%, respectively. This distribution suggests a need for heightened awareness among drivers in these different localities regarding the various factors contributing to vehicle accidents. Consequently, these insights from the insurance sector offer critical implications for road safety campaigns and the enhancement of road infrastructure to mitigate such risks.
