Rain in Taubaté causes tree falls and school structure collapses
Heavy and rapid rains in Taubaté led to structural damage, including fallen trees and a collapsed school roof.
A sudden downpour in Taubaté on Wednesday afternoon caused significant structural damage and prompted a severe alert from the State Civil Defense. The rain, accompanied by strong gusts of wind, affected various areas, particularly the municipal school Professor Cláudio César Guilherme de Toledo, which saw its roof collapse. Nearby, in the neighborhood of Jaraguá, a large tree was also reported to have fallen. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries among residents or schoolchildren. The Civil Defense of Taubaté noted that wind speeds reached approximately 28 km/h, with a total rainfall accumulation of 20.4 millimeters during the storm. First responders quickly assessed the damages, which included the destruction of a Police Military company facility in Esplanada Santa Terezinha after being struck by the strong rains. The fallen roof resulted in debris falling onto parked vehicles, highlighting the storm's severity and the need for safety measures in community structures. This event underlines the importance of preparedness for extreme weather events, especially in regions like Taubaté that are prone to sudden storms. The local government's swift response, involving assessments and support for affected structures, is crucial for ensuring community safety and restoring normalcy in the aftermath of such natural events.
