Heavy rain has significantly impacted the city of Taubaté, located in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil, since the afternoon of Monday, September 9. The intense downpour resulted in the flooding of approximately 120 homes, particularly in the Santa Tereza neighborhood, where a creek overflowed due to the excessive volume of rain, inundating local streets. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from this incident.

In response to the flooding, the State Civil Defense of São Paulo dispatched teams to assist the affected area, where it was necessary for 26 adults and six children to evacuate their homes. These displaced residents are currently sheltered at the municipal school Professora Docelina Silva de Campos Coelho. The emergency plan initiated by the municipality involved immediate services to assist the families, with support from the Fire Department, BAEP of the Military Police utilizing rescue boats, SAMU, and social work teams. All efforts were coordinated through the Municipal Civil Defense, illustrating an organized approach to disaster response.

This situation highlights the challenges posed by heavy rainfall during certain seasons in Brazil and raises concerns about the city’s infrastructure and preparedness for such natural events.
