Parking maneuver no longer required in practical exam for driver's license starting Thursday (19) in Piauí

The practical exam for obtaining a driver's license in Piauí will no longer require a parking maneuver as of Thursday, with changes to failure thresholds also implemented.

Starting Thursday, October 19, the new practical exam manual from the National Traffic Department of Brazil (Senatran) will be implemented in Piauí, which includes significant changes to the process for obtaining a National Driver’s License (CNH). One of the major updates is the removal of the parking maneuver (baliza) requirement for category B licenses, alongside the abolition of automatic disqualifying faults, simplifying the testing procedure for new drivers.

According to the Piauí State Traffic Department (Detran-PI), the number of faults leading to automatic failure has increased from four to eleven, allowing candidates more flexibility during their practical exams. This change applies to all candidates, even those currently in the process of obtaining their driver’s license. It is important to note that while the parking maneuver has been removed for category B, it remains a requirement for higher categories C, D, and E licenses.

The cancellation of disqualifying faults will result in a more forgiving examination process where candidates can only fail if the examiner determines they lack the minimum skills to operate the vehicle safely. These changes reflect an effort by local traffic authorities to adapt the driver testing process to better prepare new drivers while maintaining safety standards on the road.
