Parallel parking no longer mandatory for driver's license in Piauí, declares Detran
The Detran of Piauí has announced that the parallel parking test will no longer be a mandatory requirement for obtaining a driver's license in the state, starting from this month.
The State Department of Traffic in Piauí has officially declared the removal of the parallel parking test as an obligatory criterion for acquiring a Category B driver's license, effective from the 19th of this month. This decision aligns with a broader national trend and is in accordance with the new practical examination manual issued by the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran), indicating a shift towards streamlining the licensing process. However, the parallel parking requirement will still apply to other vehicle categories, reflecting a maintained focus on ensuring driver readiness for more complex vehicles.
In addition to eliminating the parallel parking test, Detran has also revised the criteria for failure in the practical driving exam. Previously, candidates could fail after committing four mistakes, but under the new regulations, the threshold has been raised to eleven mistakes before a candidate may be deemed unsuccessful. This change is aimed at enhancing the testing process and providing a more lenient framework for prospective drivers, potentially allowing for a more realistic assessment of driving capabilities.
Another significant alteration involves the removal of 'eliminatory faults', meaning candidates will no longer automatically fail if they make specific mistakes during the test, unless the examiner determines that the candidate is unfit to safely operate a vehicle. This shift is intended to create a more equitable environment for driving assessments, focusing on overall driving skills rather than penalizing minor errors, likely leading to an increase in the number of drivers obtaining their licenses in Piauí.
